The Hook Peninsula lighthouse was built on a 5th century monastery site and you can still see the site of a small monks chapel.This lighthouse was first built in the 1200s and is the oldest operating lighthouse in the world! The walls of this medieval tower are up to 4 metres thick built of local limestone and at the top was originally a fire beacon since replaced with a lantern.
